The monthly General Meeting of the Madison chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America is a great place to learn about the chapter, join us in making collective decisions about our strategy and tactics, and get plugged in to our active organizing work. Our General Membership Meetings occur on the second Wednesday of every month.

Description:

One of the largest questions facing DSA nationally and at our local chapter level is how and to what extent socialist movements such as ours should engage with electoral politics within our current capitalist system. As our chapter grows in numbers and influence within Madison locally and the state generally, this question is more pressing for us now than ever. Come join your comrades as we navigate this difficult but important question by way of a comradely debate!

We will start off with a educational presentation by the political education working group on important terms and ideas about electoralism within socialist thought. Then, three different MADSA members will have the opportunity to argue their position on the role of electoralism in socialist politics. After we've heard from them, we will join in a large-group discussion and debate where members will be encouraged to share their thoughts, raise objections to the positions of others, and ask difficult questions of their comrades.

You will come away from this debate perhaps solidified in your position, perhaps newly questioning your previous thoughts, or perhaps with a different perspective entirely! Regardless, we will strengthen our political analysis and bolster our ability, as individuals and as a chapter, to make effective political action in the drive to achieve socialism!

Afterward, join us for a social and some drinks at Working Draft!

NOTE: This debate is about electoralism in general. We will not be discussing any particular local candidates, their races, or whether or not our chapter should endorse them. Occasional references to electeds/candidates are okay, but there are other chapter spaces for discussing particular candidate endorsements.

Location: Currently officially TBD, but will likely be Aubergine at 1226 Williamson St, Madison, WI 53703. We are currently waiting on confirmation from the venue and this page will be updated when we have it.
