Zoom
Virtual | RSVP Here
Madison Area DSA's regularly-scheduled labor working group meeting. Join us as we work towards making Dane County, Wisconsin, and the country as a whole more free for us all.
The Abolitionist Working Group (AWG) formed out of the work to Derail the Jail and the Doyle Resolution campaigns to stop the jail expansion and decarcerate Dane County. This group is the home in Madison Area DSA for all abolition-related work. We believe that abolition is a key tenet of socialism as prisons and policing are some of the most direct and personal means of state-driven oppression in our current society.

Want to end displacement, end evictions, end rent profiteering, end repair neglect, end harassment and discrimination? Tenants share their experiences, concerns, and advice regarding housing in Madison. Masks required + provided. In person and on Zoom.
Working Group Info:
Our aim is to organize tenants in order to be able to stand upagainst landlords in the Madison area who aren’t attending to the needsof tenants, harassing them or neglecting them. Across the continent andoverseas, there are tenant unions that are having successes standing upto landlords and winning campaigns to prevent discriminatory evictions, getting landlords to make much-needed renovations and repairs they arerequired to do but refuse to, raising rents unfairly and other abusesthat landlords are able to get away with.
All members of the Tenants Organizing Working Group (TOWG) are expected to participate in Madison Tenant Power(MTP) meetings and events since TOWG does not have it’s own meetings orevents otherwise. MTP is a formal coalition of the TOWG with otherinterested groups with the goal of reforming the Madison Tenant Unionof the ’70s and was responsible for many of the legal protectionsMadison tenants have today. The tenant union ended with it becoming theinvaluable Tenant Resource Center and with the union’s end, so did advancement of tenants rights in Madison.
