Strike Report 0: January 31st Meeting Recap
We hope that this outline is helpful if you weren’t able to make it Our ICE Out community meeting on 1/31, and as you describe this meeting to friends and neighbors as you’re organizing your community!
Together, we heard from:
- An experienced international union organizer about how much power workers collectively wield and how we can use that power in a general strike starting May 1st to deal real damage to their power sources and force an end to the terror.
- A union educator about Madison Teachers Incorporated’s community defense plan and how we can all play a part to keep our schools safe against ICE raids.
- Our neighbors in smaller groups, where we discussed how we can create and use new and existing local networks to monitor ICE activity, and how we can keep ourselves safe while doing so.
As we looked towards future work, we:
- Acknowledged the risks inherent in this work and assessed our personal risk tolerance, and we heard about more events locally to keep this momentum going.
- Made commitments to continue working in our communities to form the networks necessary to defend ourselves from ICE terror and build the movement that will defund, abolish, and prosecute ICE once and for all.
